“See now that I, even I, am He, and there is no god with Me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of My hand.” (Deuteronomy 32:39)

What does God mean when He says these words? Here’s what some online commentators say:

“In this context, God is like the hero in a movie,
eliminating the bad guys.”

“It sounds like something an evil villain
like Thanos would say.”

“This guy sounds like a fragile narcissistic
overly dramatic jerk.”

“The god of the Bible is a monster if you take into account how many times it sends people to kill others.”

“This is a holy God? One who kills?”

When we read the Bible in the wrong way, through our own preconceived ideas, we will arrive at the above conclusions. However, when we allow Jesus to remove the veil of misunderstanding, and view God as Jesus revealed Him, then we will see the light shining through the darkness.

“But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.”
(2 Corinthians 3:14, English Standard Version)
